The Barcelona and Argentina star has no doubt that his former boss would bring silverware to Stamford Bridge, if he were to give in to Roman Abramovich's long-term admiration
Lionel Messi is confident his former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola would be a success at Chelsea.
The current Ballon d'Or holder believes that no matter where the Spaniard restarts his career he would be a hit.
Chelsea have appointed former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez as interim manager after Roberto Di Matteo's sacking and speculation is rife that the former Barcelona manager will eventually succeed Benitez this summer.
Messi has been full of praise for his former mentor, and believes wherever he opts to go, success will come to the sought-after manager.
“Guardiola will be a success wherever he goes,” Messi told reporters. “He is widely recognised as one of the best coaches in the world.
“For me he is the best coach in the world and wherever he goes he will be a success I have no doubt about that. He’ll go where he wants to go and good luck to him.
“It’s difficult to judge the situation when you are not inside the club but Chelsea are a great club and with big clubs if you lose two game consecutively then these things can happen, the pressure starts to mount.”
The Argentine also praised his two international team-mates Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez for helping Manchester City with their recent success.
He continued: “I follow the English league and they are both fantastic players. City are Champions and leaders and that is in large down to those two players.”
