Hazard: Chelsea defeat to Juventus was too severe
The Belgian starlet feels that the European champions did not deserve to lose by three goals but has not given up hope of the Blues reaching the knockout stages
Chelsea winger Eden Hazard insists that his side did not deserve a 3-0 defeat from their Champions League clash with Juventus on Tuesday evening.
The Blues needed to take at least a point from their trip to Turin to keep their fate in their own hands but were clinically beaten by the Italian outfit.
However, Hazard, who joined the reigning European champions from French side Lille in the summer, believes that the result flattered Juve.
He told Goal.com: "I think the result is too severe for us because we played a good match in the first half, even if we didn't score. Juventus scored in each chance they created.
"We are sorry, we knew that this was a difficult match, but it's normal because in the Champions League you face the biggest teams in Europe. Juve are among them, they played very aggressive and put us in trouble."
Shakhtar Donetsk sealed qualification for the last 16 with a 5-2 win over Nordsjaelland and Juventus will book their place in the last 16 if they are able to gain a point from their upcoming trip to Ukraine.
But Hazard feels that Shakhtar will not be satisfied to settle for a draw and hopes that Mircea Lucescu's men can aid Chelsea's cause with a win.
He added: "Qualifying to the next stage is now more difficult but we hope Shakhtar will win. An 'agreed' draw between Shakhtar and Juve? I don't believe in this but we we'll know just after the match."
