The stain of racism will never fade away for Chelsea

SIGN ... front-row fan gestures
And didn’t the United fans gleefully seize on the chance to rub it in.
The stage was set perfectly after all.
Sunday’s epic collision between Chelsea and United was remembered, not for its fabulous football but the after-match accusations against referee Mark Clattenburg who is alleged to have called Nigerian midfielder Mikel a “monkey’ and Juan Mata a “Spanish t**t”.
Clattenburg denies it but police and the FA investigations are already underway.
And last night’s twist before kick-off was that Chelsea will push ahead with their complaint regarding Mikel although they will not pursue the Mata matter.
But with the stench of racism so fresh in the air the Reds’ supporters were quick to point the finger back at Chelsea and especially their captain.
John Terry was sat in the stands so was forced to take it at full volume.
He must realise it’s a stigma, a stain that will never go away.
It is also a situation that does not just reflect on him, but also his club.
