IT took only a matter of seconds for the racial abuse to break out at Stamford Bridge.

And this time there was no need for any inquiry to establish what was or was not said and by whom.

It was so loud and clear that everyone heard it. But not from the referee and not from any player.

No it came booming out of the Shed End, the infamous stand at the Bridge that once housed the Blues’ most notorious fans who, on occasions, were not above racially abusing their own.

But last night it was pumped-up Manchester United fans bellowing out a chorus of “Where’s your racist centre half?” as soon as the match kicked off.
