Sir Roger a hot tip

Goal..and we only had to wait 52 yrs
ODDS on Sir Roger Bannister lighting the Olympic Cauldron tumbled yesterday — with bookies William Hill refusing any more bets on him.

The firm said Sir Roger, the first man to break the four-minute-mile barrier, had attracted “a monster gamble”.

A spokesman said: “Just a week ago he was 33-1.” Rivals Ladbrokes said betting remained open but admitted: “Today all the money was for Sir Roger.”

Speculation was fuelled by Lord Coe praising the “very special” 83-year-old.

Whoever is chosen will not be revealed until the last minute, but rower Sir Steve Redgrave and decathlete Daley Thompson had been favourites.

Twitter is silenced by crash

TWITTER crashed out of action — just hours before today’s opening ceremony.

The online crisis is thought to have been sparked by huge numbers of Olympic tweets jamming the mini-blogging site.

Twitterati flooded other social media when the site was offline for over an hour yesterday.

Engineers quickly solved the problem and users shared anecdotes under the trending hashtag #When-TwitterWasDown.

One post read: “Thanks a lot sports-loving losers.”

And the winner is..

THE Olympics is a festival of non-sport.

I have no interest whatsoever in who wins the Synchronised Freestyle Beach Handball.
