I have a say

Racing Santander says in a statement that president Francisco Pernia and his board have resigned from the Spanish club.

The statement says “the reason behind this decision is to avoid a situation where conflict and tension” could divide the club.

Last season, Indian tycoon Ahsan Ali Syed purchased the troubled club and met its immediate debt payments, but his support was not enough to keep it out of bankruptcy. The statement says the decision does not include Ali Syed.

Earlier this week, former coach Quique Setien criticized the club, saying it was led by people “without scruples.”

Santander, which is 19th and the only team without a victory through nine games, says an election is imminent.
