Arbroath vs Airdrie United preview - Wedderburn doubt for league leaders

I have a say

Arbroath defender Craig Wedderburn is a major doubt with a groin strain as the league leaders entertain Airdrie at Gayfield.

Striker Jordan Elfverson has already been ruled out due to an ankle ligament problem.

Player-manager Paul Sheerin has told his men they need to tighten up in defence if they are to retain pole position.

He said: "We are scoring freely because we attack so much, but that leaves us vulnerable at the back.

"It may well be a nice problem to have when you are winning, but it would be good to be a bit tighter when other teams attack.

"Airdrie have good wide men and my old St Johnstone team-mate Derek Holmes is a real handful so we will have to be alert throughout the game."

Airdrie's Fraser Keast is fit again after three weeks out with an ankle injury, and the midfielder will make the trip.

The game has come too soon for defender Graeme Goodhall, who remains out with a knock, though.

Ahead of the trip, Diamonds boss Jimmy Boyle empathised with his opposite number Paul Sheerin.

He said: "I was reading that Paul was finding it difficult to accept that he had to score three or four times in every game to win it as his team score just about as many as they concede.

"I know exactly how he feels as we can throw them in at one end just about as quickly as we score them at the other.

"I will settle for a 1-0 Airdrie win all the same."
