Dunfermline 1 : 1 Ross County - Pars perseverance pays off
Posted Tuesday, March 08, 2011 by PA
Dunfermline failed to make the most of their game in hand on Scottish Division One leaders Raith as they needed Andy Kirk's late penalty to secure a 1-1 home draw against Ross County.
County had the better of the first half chances with Michael Gardyne coming close first when his 18-yard shot was saved Athletic goalkeeper Chris Smith then when his 30th minute header drifted wide.
The Pars started the second period better and Kevin Rutkiewicz headed wide.
But they were hit by a sucker-punch when County's Andrew Barrowman nodded in from Marc Fitzpatrick's cross after 67 minutes.
Dunfermline persevered though and got their rewards when Kirk equalised from the spot after 81 minutes following Jonathan Flynn's foul on Joe Cardle.
