Republic of Ireland captain and record goalscorer Robbie Keane announced on Wednesday (24th August) his retirement from international football, and will make his last appearance next Wednesday (31st August) in a friendly against Oman in Dublin.

Keane - who scored 67 goals in 145 appearances for the Republic will make his final appearance in a friendly against Oman on August 31st. Keane retires as the top goalscorer among all active international players world-wide.
The game against Oman in Dublin will offer the 36-year old a further opportunity to enhance his remarkable scoring achievements - one more goal will draw him level with Germany legend Gerd Muller, placing Keane fourth on the list of European goalscorers, in international football history.
Keane, who made his debut for Ireland in 1998 - will continue his club football career with MLS side LA Galaxy.
