-
Reaction from Tuesday (23rd August) after nine-man Roma crashed out of the Champions League in the qualifying play-off after losing 3-0 at home to Porto, 4-1 on aggregate.
SOUNDBITE: (Portuguese) Nuno Espirito Santo, Porto Coach:
"For the first time this year, we went to the second leg with an advantage. It was important, after the opening leg, after a not such a brilliant start, to succeed in playing a great second game. You've seen the great enthusiasm from us at the start of the match. Matches are important from the first to the last whistle. We had 20 minutes when we did not play well, but for the rest of the game we were superior. Here at the Olimpico, we brought our offensive dynamic, which worked well in terms of productivity in attack. Today was a new game which allowed us to be the protagonists, which we were. We were superior to Roma. The most important thing was the players' hard work, their commitment and I want to actually take the opportunity now to thank them publicly, to congratulate them because a team's success is based on three pillars: commitment, cooperation and communication. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the supporters from the opening game from the Dragao stadium, who really supported us, and who followed us today and made themselves heard in a stadium like the Olimpico."
