Henan Jianye, Shanghai Shenhua and Sven-Goran Eriksson's Shanghai SIPG all secured wins in the Chinese Super League at the weekend (19th - 21st August), while former Arsenal forward and current Hebei player Gervinho was one of the most high profile faces of the round, receiving a red card for a stamp on an opponent.
Round 23 of the Chinese Super League finished with a mid-table clash being ignited by a reckless stamp from an Ivorian.
On Sunday evening a mid-table clash between Henan and Gervinho's Hebei saw the former Arsenal man sent off for this stamp.
Henan went on to beat 10-man Hebei 1-0 and consolidate fifth.
Up the table, Sven-Goran Eriksson's Shanghai SIPG hosting Shijiazhuang Ever Bright on Friday (19th August).
Shanghai took an early lead when Fu Huan danced down the right wing to open the scoring in the 10th minute.
The goal had an edge of controversy with replays suggesting that Fu Huan had dribbled the ball out of play.
Although replayed showed Fu had dribbled the ball out of play.
Brazilian Matheus Nascimento equalised for the visitors.
Ten minutes after half time Shanghai retook the lead through Argentine forward Dario Conca who bravely got in ahead of the goalkeeper. Shanghai would go on to score another two and win 4-1.
They sit fourth.
It was then the turn of the leaders on Saturday night, Guangzhou Evergrande facing Hangzhou.
The game would prove a frustrating one for Phil Scolari's table toppers as Zhang Linpeng's first half effort was the closest they came in a 0-0 stalemate.
And finally on Saturday evening,
That meant Shanghai Shenhua could close the gap from third to ten points of the leaders.
Shenhua did just that in a 2-1 win over Liaoning. Former Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins scoring the winner.
