Guangzhou R and F defeat Chongqing Lifan FC 5-4 in thrilling Chinese Super League shoot-out on Sunday (21st October).

Chongqing Lifan hosted Guangzhou R&F in a Chinese Super League midtable clash on Sunday night (21 August), and a nine-goal thriller ensued.

Guangzhou opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Alan Kardec (27) diverted (25) Eran Zahavi's free kick into his own net.

Chongqing replied in the 15th minute when (11) Wu Qing equalised from the edge of the six-yard box to level the match at 1-1.

With three minutes of the first-half remaining, (32) Fernandinho slipped past his marker and scored to put the hosts ahead at the break.

But just after the restart Xiao Zhi restored parity despite Chen Anqi believing that he had the ball in his hands.

In the 55th minute Guangzhou regained the lead when (25) Zahavi was left unmarked at the far post from a corner. The Israel internationl made no mistake from close-range to make it 3-2.

Four minutes later, Chongqing were level again thanks to a (8) Ding Jie header.

It remained 3-3 until the 70th minute when Guangzhou went ahead again when (29) Xiao Zhi headed home from a corner for his second of the match.

Unbelievably, Chongqing fought back once more as (27) Kardec made amends for his earlier own goal.

But in the dying embers of the game, Guangzhou did manage to snatch victory. A deflected shot fell to (32) Chen Zhizhao and he kept his composure to slot home his side's fifth goal of the night.

It ended 5-4, with the win moving Guangzhou into sixth place in the Chinese Super League while Chongqing sit in tenth.
