Feyenoord returned to the top of the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday (21st August) after a 1-0 win at Heracles Almelo.
With maximum points from their opening two games, Feyenoord knew another victory would return them to the top of the Eredivisie table.
The visitors had the early chances. Steven Berghuis delivered cross which hit the post and Heracles goalkeeper Bram Castro then failed to hold a shot from Rick Karsdorp, but the rebound didn't quite fall for Dirk Kuyt.
At the other end, Heracles were left to try their luck from distance - Iliass Bel Hassani had the power, but not quite the direction as his shot flew wide.
Feyenoord went ahead in the 29th minute when Karim El Ahmadi found himself on the end of a swift passing move - and placed his volley past Castro from 12 yards.
It was a lead the Rotterdam side would not relinquish.
Heracles struggled to open up a defence that has yet to concede this season - Thomas Bruns was another to shoot from well outside the box, but still the accuracy was not quite there.
As the match headed into stoppage-time, the Feyenoord goalkeeper Brad Jones was finally called on to make a save as he pushed over Bel Hassani's goalbound effort.
So another win for Feyenoord, who are one of three sides on nine points - but they've scored more goals than anyone else (8) as well as having kept three clean sheets.
