Justin Rose described winning Olympic Gold as something that would be "a huge achievement and a huge honour", as he looked ahead to golf making its Olympic debut on Saturday (6th August).
SOUNDBITE: (English) Justin Rose (on why Olympic gold is so special);
"I think it (the Olympics) is something that stands apart, that sets itself apart, it doesn't mean that it's more special or less special than anything. People want to compare them to Major Championships and I just feel like it's in it's own little bracket, it's own box. I said earlier in the year that I would like my career to read 'multiple major champion and Olympic gold medallist' It's that 'and.' It's something special and it's a great addition to any sport, to any career."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Justin Rose (on winning Olympic gold):
"Yes, for sure. I mean there are still some great players here, there's no doubt about it, and certainly to win Olympic gold is going to be a huge achievement and a huge honour and certainly something that's not going to be easy so of course we all know the story about some of the guys who aren't here but I think that's certainly not what the guys here are focussing on and there's definitely some tough competition and whoever wins is going to be very deserving."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Justin Rose (on golf as an Olympic sport):
"Definitely to me the Olympics has always been about watching the fastest, the strongest, the best athletes at what they do, male and female. It hasn't necessarily, to be, that's why I think golf is a fit, or it could be or should be a fit. It's not necessarily about amateur versus pro (professional) - but it's about the best of the best competing against each other."
