Former Masters champion Trevor Immelman previews King's Cup in Thailand

  • Former Masters champion Trevor Immelman on Tuesday (26th July) looked ahead to the King's Cup in Thailand.

Pattaya in Thailand is a long way from Augusta, but that's where former Masters champion Trevor Immelman finds himself as he gets ready to play in this week's King's Cup at the Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club.

Immelman, who is returning to Thailand for the first time since 2004, said he had been working hard to overcome the nagging injuries which caused him to drop to 1,842 in the world.

(on his struggles since winning the 2008 Masters)

"I think injury-wise I have felt great for a while, so I got no problems there. Obviously I haven't been playing the way I would like. Not through the lack of effort, I might add. I've been, you know, grinding it out trying to find ways to improve. So hopefully this week I can find some form and have a good tournament."

The 36-year old Immelman will be looking to regain the form which saw him reach number twelve in the world in 2007 and then a year later pip Tiger Woods to win the Masters.

But a wrist injury suffered in 2009 derailed his once promising career.

For the first time in the history of the King's Cup, the tournament will be sanctioned by both he Asian and European Tours.
