Inclement weather caused the suspension of the first round of the U.S. Open at Oakmont after just nine golfers had completed their opening 18 holes. Amateur Scottie Scheffler was the clubhouse leader with a one-under-par 69 while qualifier Andrew Landry sat atop the leaderboard at three under through 17 holes.
The 2016 U.S. Open teed off at Oakmont Country Club, but three weather suspensions left much opening round golf to be played on Friday.
Defending champion Jordan Spieth made it through 11 holes before play was called. Spieth is in the black.
Danny Lee completed 13 holes, bogey-free, two-under.
Bubba Watson had an up-and-down 14 holes, with five birdies and three bogeys.
Lee Westwood had the early shot of the round when he holed out his approach on the par-four 14th hole. The Englishman is on one under par.
Romain Wattel had just bogeyed the par-four 15th when the final horn sounded to fall back to even par on the day.
Matt Fitzpatrick racked up three birdies and three bogeys over his opening 13 holes.
Shane Lowry rolled in his birdie putt on the 11th hole to get back to even par just ahead of the horn.
Rory McIlroy played alongside Masters champion Danny Willett and Rickie Fowler and the trio were a combined 14-over par through 13 holes.
Sitting top the leaderboard when the horn blew was qualifier Andrew Landry. He was at three under par.
Scottie Scheffler is the clubhouse leader for the day. Scheffler, one of only nine players to finish, opened with a one-under 69.
Eighty-one golfers were unable to get their rounds started because of the weather, and could face 36 holes on Friday.
