Tilen Bartol jumped what would have been a new ski jump world record of 252 metres in training for the World Cup event at Planica, Slovenia on Wednesday (16th March), but he could not make the landing.

Training ahead of Friday's final World Cup ski jump event of the season in Planica, Slovenia took place on Wednesday with some huge distances achieved.

Ernest Prislic had already flown 246 metres when another Slovenian, Tilen Bartol, went down the ramp.

Despite the pictures his Slovenian trainers appeared comfortable in the knowledge that Bartol's fall wasn't a nasty one.

The 18-year-old flew out to 252 metres, further than the world record of 251.5 metres held by Norwegian Anders Fannemel, but could not make the landing.

He got up straight away despite an awkward looking landing with his knee buckling and his face crashing down into the ground.

World Cup winner Peter Prevc, also from Slovenia, holds the hill record at 248.5 metres and that, could be under threat in qualifying on Thursday and in the event proper on Friday.
