Austrian star Marcel Hirscher won his first slalom of the 2016 Alpine Skiing World Cup season on Wednesday (6th January) at Santa Caterina, Italy.
Marcel Hirscher posted the fastest second-run time to beat Norwegian rival Henrik Kristoffersen and win a men's World Cup slalom in Italy on Wednesday.
Hirscher, who was third after the opening run at Santa Caterina, finished in a combined time of 1 minute, 54.54 seconds to lead Kristoffersen by 0.21.
It was the Austrian's 36th career win.
Kristoffersen, who beat the Austrian to win both previous slaloms this season, remained in the lead of the discipline standings.
Hirscher went top of the overall standings again, leading Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway by 85 points. Svindal doesn't compete in slaloms.
First-run leader Aleksander Khoroshilov dropped to third for his fourth career World Cup podium.
Luca Aerni was left a frustrated figure on his home snow, meanwhile, after a gatepost popped out of the ground while he was in full flow.
