Jockey Timothy Bell fell to his death from a high-rise apartment in Singapore late on Tuesday.
The 22 year-old Australian reportedly locked himself out of his 12th-floor residence and fell while looking for the keys.
Singapore Police are investigating the circumstances of the death.
Bell had just begun a three-and-a-half month stint at Singapore Turf Club's Kranji Race Course.
He won the last race at Sunday's meeting on the Steven Burridge-trained Lim's Bullet.
Burridge said he was 'shocked' to hear the 'tragic' news.
SOUNDBITE: (English) Steven Burridge, trainer who recommended Tim Bell to the Singapore Turf Club (on Bell's death):
"A loss for everybody, you know. His fiance', I don't mean his fiance', his girlfriend is here and she's shocked. And his mother…her mother's coming over tonight and his father's coming tomorrow. So, yeah, it's a real shock to everybody. I mean, just tragic."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Steven Burridge (on Bell's potential as a jockey):
"His riding capabilities were shown out and he was a very talented lad and very quiet. When you put him on in track work, he got off and gave you good information about horses and we were all very happy with his, you know, the way things were going and just looking for the future."
Born in Narrabri, New South Wales, Bell rode around 650 winners in a career spanning seven years, including more than 20 at Group level.
