The Olympic course at Sochi was the venue for a second day on Sunday as the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup seasons came to their conclusion.
In the 4-Man Bob competition, Latvia's Oskars Melbardis had been assured of the overall World Cup title when his closest rival, Germany's Francesco Friedrich, opted not to race in Sochi.
And after a fast start Latvia managed a combined 1:50.03, and eventually won the title.
Russia, led by Alexander Kasjanov, came second with Germany third.
There was a different kind of agony for the Swiss quartet - pilot Rico Peter was lying third after the first run, but crashed in spectacular style on his second.
The crew members were shaken but appeared to have avoided serious injury as they received a warm reception from the crowd at the bottom of the track.
Melbardis was celebrated as a double champion after he and brakeman Daumans Dreiskens secured the 2-Man World Cup title on Saturday.
In Men's Skeleton, Melbardis' compatriot Martins Dukurs had already secured the World Cup title, but was hoping to sign off with another win in Sochi.
Olympic champion Alexander Tretiakov had other ideas though and stormed dow the track and his two-run total of 1 minute 52.40 seconds was more than four tenths quicker than Dukurs.
Exactly a year after winning the Olympic gold medal, Tretiakov took the win, but the season belonged to Dukurs, who won six out the eight events on the calendar and must be the strong favourite to add further success at the world championships, which start later this month in Germany.
