  • Intro:

Lindsay Vonn missed out in an attempt of a record-equalling 62nd World Cup win in Val d'isere.

While in Italy, Marcel Hirscher wins the World Cup giant slalom in Alta Badia on Sunday (21st December).

    Script:

Olympic Super-G Champion Anna Fenninger kicked off the event in a sunny Val d'isere on Sunday.

The Austrian with very few mistakes on her descent, looking in fine form.

The winner in Sochi came in with a time of 1.25.47.

Up next was her compatriot Elisabeth Goergl, the Austrian finished second in the downhill yesterday & was again finding her speed.

At the third checkpoint she was ahead of Fenninger by 0.04 seconds & Goergl clocked just ahead of the Olympic Champion.

The two Austrians knew their podium positions weren't guaranteed as Lindsay Vonn started her run.

Yet the American - chasing a record equalling 62nd World Cup win - crashed out of the event. Thankful unhurt by her fall.

Tina Maze, double Olympic Champion, made up the podium as Austria took a one-two in the Super G.

The men were in Giant Slalom action in Italy.

American Ted Ligety produced a near perfect second run, moving from seventh into top spot.

Yet, it was the World Cup leader Marcel Hirscher who found the fastest two times of the day.

The Austrian winning his third event here at Alta Badia & second Giant Slalom in two years.

Kjetil Jansrud despite finishing 18th, leads overall.
