The FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup slalom season began on Friday in Finland.

Finishing in third place was Austrian Kathrin Zettel. The 28-year-old achieved a total time of 1:55.67 seconds.

Frida Hansdotter put together two strong runs and the Swede was able to stay in second place from the first run and celebrate her 10th career second place finish in the discipline.

A combined time of 1:55.49 seconds was the time to beat and Tina Maze was equal to the feat. The Slovenian clocked 1:55.15 seconds to take glory by 0.34 seconds.

The trilingual skier's slalom success was the fourth of her career and Maze finished runner-up to American Mikaela Shiffrin last season.

After today's race the 31-year-old was awarded a baby reindeer for her victory. Christmas has come early for Maze.
