Thursday's play at the WTA Tour Finals in Singapore got underway with Caroline Wozniacki facing Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska.

Wozniacki, the number eight seed, had the better head-to-head record, winning six of 10 career meetings with Radwanska, including their previous match at this year's Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, in August.

The Dane fell behind to an early break though, but managed to claw her way back to take the first set 7-5.

The sixth seed Radwanska surrendered her serve in the seventh game of the second set and Wozniacki broke again in the ninth, winning four games in succession to wrap up a 7-5, 6-3 victory.

A second win in as many matches leaves Wozniacki - the lowest ranked player in the event - on the brink of a place in the semi-finals.

Play in the White Group continued with second seed Maria Sharapova facing Petra Kvitova.

Despite being on court for over three hours in her defeat to Wozniacki on Tuesday, Sharapova started brightly against Kvitova, breaking in the opening game on the way to an early 2-0 lead.

However, third seed Kvitova won 11 of the next 12 games to take control of the match, serving out the first set 6-3.

Her momentum continued into the second set as she took the match in straight sets after winning it 6-2.

Kvitova moves to one win and one defeat in Singapore, while Sharapova's hopes of qualifying come down to the results on Friday.
