Great Britain's Lee Pearson riding his horse Zion took first place in the Para-Dressage competition at the World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France on Monday (25th August).

Despite a deluge of rain throughout the day in Normandy, those who braved weather saw a British victory.

Italian Silvia Verati set the barrier high when she carded a 72% round to put pressure on the rest of the field.

Verati riding her 10-year-old horse was delighted with her performance and she finished in third.

Austrian Pepo Puch bettered the Italian's score by some 4%. Puch was delighted with his score as in his own words he 'feared his horse running back into the stables due to the weather.'

The Austrian's 17-year-old horse was rewarded by the judges for the long ranging walk offered by the pair.

And it was left to Great Britain's Lee Pearson riding his horse Zion to take first place in the Para-Dressage competition.

Known as the 'Godfather' of the dressage, Pearson put on a stylish display & controlled the horse immaculately.

Yet the scores came up showing Pearson had carded a 74% round, leaving him 2% off Puch.

The judges called a calculation error and the Godfather had his title.
