Espinoza: Belmont stumble 'was good experience'

Monday, June 02 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Jockey Victor Espinoza said he has learned from War Emblem's failed Triple Crown bid in 2002, when the horse stumbled out of the gate and failed to fire in the Belmont. The veteran rider has another chance of glory at the Belmont Stakes when he rides California Chrome in New York, America, on 7 June. Steve Coburn and Perry Martin's homebred son of Lucky Pulpit has already landed the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes and victory in the Belmont would see him become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.

SOUNDBITE (English): Victor Espinoza, California Chrome's Jockey:

"Well, in 2002 it was a good experience for me. I never thought that I was going to be in this situation again over a decade but I'm back and, you know what? I learned a lot and I'm ready this time to be able to handle it different and be ready for this race."
