China were looking for their 13th World Badminton title on Saturday when they faced near neighbours Japan in the final.
Japan themselves were playing in their first Federation final for 30 years.
World number one Li Xuerui opened for China against Japan's Minatsu Mitani, ranked 12th in the World
Yet the World No 1 showed her class moving Mitani around the court leading to a straight sets victory.
It was a perfect start for the Chinese women, who fill all three top spots in the world singles rankings.
However, China's world number two doubles pair - Bao Yixin and Tang Jinhua - suffered a rare defeat in the next match.
Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi handed the Japanese an emphatic 21-8, 21-9 win and kept the tie alive.
Once again though, China edged ahead in the third match, world number two Wang Shixian a winner in straight sets over Sayaka Takahashi.
China's 2-1 lead put the Japanese in a do or die situation, if they were to prevent China from claiming the Uber Cup for the 13th time.
Miyuki Maeda and Reika Kakiiwa shouldered Japan's hopes as they took on the illustrious duo Zhao Yunlei and Wang Xiaoli.
And they ensured a comfortable 21-13, 21-6 victory over the world number five pair.
Despite a Chinese victory becoming a common occurrence the jubilation was for all to see as China kept hold of the Uber Cup for another year - after 16 consecutive appearances in the final.
