Extreme sports have become increasingly popular with several snowboard and ski cross events being showcased at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

However, Moscow was the latest venue for the most recent spectacle, the Ice Cross Downhill World Championship.

18,000 peopel graced the banks of the downhill course to watch as the skaters battled it out for the 2014 title.

The bumps and jumps of the downhill course meant that skaters spent almost as much time sliding along the ice as they did skating.

The head mounted cameras allowing for a first hand view of the difficulty involved.

American Cameron Naasz pulled out all the stops to win the latest round on the banks of the Moskva River in Moscow.

Naasz came from behind to beat Austria's Marco Dallago in a thrilling battle.

The result means the 2014 World Championship will go down to the wire in the season-finale in two weeks' time in Quebec City.

Given the action packed races, no doubt, Canadians will be out in force to watch the decisive race of the season.
