After the excitement of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, the ski jumping World Cup resumed on Wednesday, with Falun, Sweden the setting for a large hill individual event.

Germany's Severin Freund led after the first of two rounds of jumps, reaching 133 metres for a score of 132.2 points.

Kamil Stoch, who won two gold medals in Sochi, led the World Cup standings heading into the event, but the Pole sat down in a disappointing 13th place at the halfway stage.

However, he performed much better second time around to move into the provisional lead.

Sitting in 10th place after the first round, Peter Prevc took top spot ahead of his World Cup title rival Stoch, thanks to his second jump, which saw him clear 133.5 metres for a combined score of 250.2 points.

The next eight jumpers failed to better the Slovenian's total, but Freund still had the chance to snatch victory.

And Freund - a member of Germany's gold medal-winning men's large hill team in Russia - bettered his first jump with a 135-metre second effort, to take first place on the podium.

Prevc claimed second position and third place went to veteran Noriaki Kasai.
