The quarter-finals day of the new season's BWF World Superseries got underway with the first event the Korean Open in Seoul on Friday.
As a repeat of last years final, world number one Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia faced China's Du Pengyu in the men's singles.
Lee was in total control and conducted perfect net shots, wrapping up the match in straight games 21-9, 21-12 in just 35 minutes.
In the women's singles, 22-year-old crowd favourite Sung Ji-hyun took on Manatsu Mitani of Japan.
South Korea's defending champion was safely through to the semi-finals when she outclassed the Japanese youngster 21-15, 23-21, where she will now face world champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand in the semi-finals.
In the men's doubles, home stars Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeong-seong entertained number four seeds Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa of Japan.
After claiming the first game 21-16, Lee Yong-dae showed his world-class defensive skills, when he made three plays off the floor before getting up to make the winning shot in the second game.
However, it was the Japanese who made the comeback and booked their spot in the semi-finals 16-21, 23-21, 21-15.
In another quarter-final, top seeds Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen from Denmark faced Malaysian's dark horses Lim Khim Wah and Goh V Shem.
In their first-ever encounter, the Dane's cruised to victory in straight games 21-10, 21-9.
They will now go head-to-head with Endo and Hayakawa in the semi-finals on Saturday.
