  • Intro:

Ridden by Thierry Jarnet, Treve accelerated in the final straight to outclass the field and win the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday (6th October).

    Script:

One of the highlights of the turf season, Orfevre was bidding to give Japan a first win in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Ridden by Belgian Christophe Soumillon, Orfevre was the 2-1 favourite - largely as a result of finishing runner-up last year to Solemia in this, Europe's richest race.

But it was Joshua Tree who set the early pace on the mile-and-a-half race

Into the closing stages and Joshua Tree faded after losing the lead.

Frankie Dettori was due to take a starring role in the race.

But when he broke his ankle in a race in England on Wednesday, Thierry Jarnet stepped in to ride Treve.

Starting from the unfavourable stall 15, the three-year-old filly struggled in the initital stages - but grew stronger as the race wore on.

And a supremely masterful sprint to the line gave Treve - priced at 9-2 - victory by five lengths - and condemned Orfevre to second spot again.

    9-1 shot Intello was third.

Owned by Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al Thani, Treve gave trainer Criquette Head-Maarek her first Prix de l'Arc victory since 1979.
