SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) Li Yongbo, head coach, China Badminton Olympic team:

"Most importantly, I think, is we didn't take each competition seriously and follow the Olympic spirit of 'higher, faster and stronger' as professional athletes. So from this angle, we did not fully understand the significance of it. So from this point of view, as the head coach, I think I should, since the Badminton World Federation has already made the decision, apologise to the Chinese fans and audience, because in fact, we didn't fully demonstrate the fighting spirit of the Chinese badminton team.

SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) Yu Yang, Chinese Olympic team badminton player:

"As for the Badminton World Federation's decision on us, I think firstly we should apologise to the Chinese audience, because we did not demonstrate the Olympic spirit. And then we did not give the audience a game that fully demonstrated our skills."
