With many of the Badminton stars skipping the BWF Super Series Singapore Open due to the upcoming Olympics, the men's singles final saw former champion Boonsak Ponsan of Thailand pitted against unheralded Chinese player, Wang Zhengming.

The 21-year-old Wang, who broke through as the world junior champion two years ago, started positively and ran up an impressive 10-5 lead in the opening set. This powerful down-the-line smash giving him a five point lead.

But that was short lived as Ponsana, currently ranked eighth in the world, lifted his game and drew level at 11-11 and led for the first time in the match soon after.
The experienced Thai soon wrapped up the first set at 21-18 when Wang netted a forehand return.

The momentum was with Ponsana and the Thai never lost his grip in the second set and won the match when Wang hit a forehand wide from close to the net. The Thai won 21-18, 21-19 in just less than an hour.

In the women's singles final, Taiwan's Cheng Shao Chieh took on Juliane Schenk of Germany in the title clash.
Schenk, ranked sixth in the world, jumped into a 8-5 lead in the opening set after her opponent Cheng, and eventually breezed through the opening set and won 21-11.
Schenk won the second set 26-24 on her fifth championship point and with it her first ever Super Series title.

In the men's doubles final, Olympic champions Markus Kido and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia won in three sets beating the second-seeded South Korean pair of Sung Hyun Ko and Yeon Seon Yoo.

The Indonesian pair won the opening set 22-20 before dropping the second 11-21. They bounced back in the third, losing only six points to win the title.

In the women's doubles final, Bao Yixin and Zhong Qianxin of China defeated Cheng Wen Hsing and Chien Yu Chin of Taiwan in two straight sets 21-12, 21-17 to win their first Super Series title.
