Villas-Boas: 'there is only one person responsible, which is me.'

Friday, February 24 2012 by SNTV

  • Intro:

Chelsea coach Andre Villas-Boas defended his team selections and said that he takes full responsibility for results on Thursday, as he looked forward to Saturday's Premier League game with strugglers Bolton Wanderers.

Chelsea were beaten 3-1 by Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday, with Villas-Boas leaving out some senior players from his line-up - 'the Blues' have now won just two of their last 10 matches and critics are lining up to have their shot at the Portuguese coach.

However, Villas-Boas remains insistant that he has the full backing of billionaire owner Roman Abramovich and says he ought to be judged at the end of the season.

"Well, of course we are disappointed with the result (against Napoli in the Champions League), but there is a second leg to play and the full extent of the (team) morale will be known by then."

    SUPERCAPTION: Andre Villas-Boas, Chelsea coach:

"It's like the unfairest decision for a player, when a manager chooses another player instead of that one, and sometimes whatever you say to the player is not enough to convince them that your choice is the right one."

    SOUNDBITE: (English)

    SUPERCAPTION: Andre Villas-Boas, Chelsea coach:

"Well... I don't think... None. I think none, to be fair. There is one direction and one person takes responsibility (and that) is myself and the players don't have to take it and they shouldn't take it... "

    SOUNDBITE: (English)

    SUPERCAPTION: Andre Villas-Boas, Chelsea coach:

"Well, I think we are... they are top, top players and they know what they can do for the benefit of the team, but there is only one person responsible, which is me."

    SOUNDBITE: (English)

    SUPERCAPTION: Andre Villas-Boas, Chelsea coach:

"No, I don't think so. Again, we've spoken about this. There's too many games to play. We cannot go on about this situation every two days when we get up together here in any press conference. we have to be a little more creative and ask different questions. I've answered that one enough. There is a big battle betwee fourth and seventh for the league. It will change weekend to weekend, it will change maybe this weekend with the fixtures that we have. The objective is of course to limit the damage and to get to fourth position, maybe third eventually, if Arsenal can beat Tottenham and we win. We are only seven points behind with one game against them to play, so let's wait and see."
