League Two Northampton produced a clinical display at Burton, storming into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a resounding 4-2 win.
The Cobblers took the game by the scruff of the neck, grabbing a two-goal lead within 23 minutes at the Pirelli Stadium.
Nicky Adams calmly side-footed home in the 10th minute when a long throw into the box dropped his way, before Ryan Watson headed home Sam Hoskins’ cross to double the visitors’ advantage.
A frantic end to the first period saw captain Charlie Goode put Town three up with another header on 45 minutes, only for Ryan Edwards to stab the ball home a minute later to give the League One hosts hope.
Liam Boyce fired against the bar after half-time as Burton looked to mount a recovery and the early stages of the second half belonged to Albion, who continued to knock on the door until Northampton broke away to grab a fourth goal.
There were 20 minutes remaining when Vadaine Oliver set up Hoskins and although Scott Fraser grabbed a second for the hosts in the final minute,
curling home from the edge of the box, it made little difference.
