Stefan de Vrij fail

Barcelona twice failed in their pursuit of Stefan de Vrij.

According to Italian website Calciomercato, the Spanish champions have attempted to sign the centre-back a couple of times over the last two years.

The La Liga champions tried to sign him on a free transfer when his contract expired at Lazio in 2018 - but he opted for regular first-team football with Inter Milan.

Barcelona tried their luck again in June but Antonio Conte vetoed the deal - believing the 27-year-old was crucial to his plans at the San Siro.

Interest in Dani Olmo

Premier League duo Tottenham and Liverpool expressed interest in signing Dani Olmo earlier this summer.

Olmo, 21, was one of the breakout stars of the European Under-21 Championship as he helped guide Spain to glory.

And Spanish outlet Marca claim his performances earned him interest from Liverpool, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid and Valencia.

However, Dinamo Zagreb reportedly valued him at £31million - a fee the potential suitors considered too high.

Thiago Silva extension

PSG star Thiago Silva wants to remain at the club.

The 35-year-old veteran's contract is set to expire in June 2020 but he's still a regular in the starting XI.

"I feel good right now, very relaxed. I know my qualities, what I have brought and what I can still bring," Silva said.

"At the end of this season, I hope we will have done what we are capable of doing. We will see if the club wants to extend my contract."

Wanted: Szoboszlai

Arsenal will send scouts to Liverpool's Champions League clash with RB Salzburg tonight.

The Gunners representatives will be there to watch Dominik Szoboszlai, according to the Mirror.

The 18-year-old Hungary international was on Arsenal's radar last summer and still remains on Unai Emery's shortlist.

Szoboszlai, a central midfielder, featured in Salzburg's opening seven league fixtures this season and got on the scoresheet during their 6-2 rout of Genk.

Jan Vertonghen contract

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has hinted he could sign a new contract and says he is "feeling great in every single way".

The 32-year-old is in the final year of his current deal and is yet to agree fresh terms, despite saying in the past he would be keen to stay at Spurs.

Vertonghen, speaking on the eve of his side's Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, was coy when asked whether he was in negotiations with the club, only revealing that there was "some movement".

He was, however, more forthcoming on his desire to stay at the club for as long as possible.

"I would prefer not to go too deep into that (contract talks), but there is always some movement," the Belgium defender said.

James Maddison transfer

Manchester United have accelerated their pursuit of Leicester playmaker James Maddison.

That's according to the Evening Standard, who claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has assigned scouts to keep tabs on the England international.

The Norwegian tactician is desperate to bolster his attacking options in January having overseen United's worst start to a Premier League campaign in 20 years.

And Maddison, who Leicester reportedly value at £80million, is on his radar.

Arsenal target Odegaard

Arsenal and Manchester City are looking to sign Real Madrid starlet Martin Odegaard.

Odegaard, 20, was tipped for stardom when arriving at Real Madrid in January 2015 - but former manager Carlo Ancelotti admitted the Norway international was merely a "PR exercise" for the Spanish giants.

On loan at Real Sociedad, Odegaard has revitalised his career and has attracted the attentions of the Premier League duo.

El Desmarque claim Real Madrid have no interest in retaining his services and would be prepared to offload him for around £70million.

Jason Sancho latest

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have the backing of Ed Woodward if he decides to go after Jadon Sancho but it won't be easy to convince him to move to Old Trafford.

United are looking to boost the right side of their attack and Sancho is seen as the perfect candidate that could join Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata in the wing.

Signing the England international, however, would require an excess of £100million and that is why the Red Devils decided not to go after him this summer as they preferred to concentrate on strengthening their defence with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire, who cost £50m and £80m respectively.

According to Goal, Solskjaer is already looking forward to the summer and wants to continue pursuing young, British talent like the Borussia Dortmund star.

Sancho's price tag doesn't pose a problem to United executive vice-chairman Woodward as he is happy to back the Norwegian gaffer in the transfer market.

Paulo Dybala snub

Juventus forward Paulo Dybala didn't want to leave the club.

Manchester United, Tottenham and PSG were all linked with the Argentine international during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils were reported to have held talks with Dybala's representatives but a mixture of wage demands, agent fees and the player's reluctance spoiled the move.

Now, Italian publication Corriere dello Sport say Dybala never wanted to leave the Serie A champions and wants to fight for his place under Maurizio Sarri.

Onana to Barcelona

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Andre Onana has admitted that he would love to return to the Catalan giants.

Onana left the Nou Camp in 2015 after five years with their academy to join Champions League semi-finalists Ajax.

"I don't know what will happen next year, if I will stay or not," he told Marca.

"Barcelona have always been my club. They gave me everything. It was the road to get into Europe and I'm very grateful. If they loved me again, I'd be delighted, but you never know."

Griezmann: I need time

Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann says he needs to be given more time to settle into his new surroundings after making an underwhelming start.

The Frenchman has failed to score in six of his eight competitive games and has come in for criticism for Barca's poor performances this campaign, which have led to them dropping eight points in seven La Liga games.

"It's very hard to adapt 100% in two months," Griezmann said. "I've just got here, there's a different philosophy and I need to learn and improve in certain areas. I feel comfortable here but I need time to improve, particularly on my movement without the ball and I need to get more involved in the play.

"I feel good and confident but I know I lack a few things to be the best player I can be. I think I'm on the right path."
