David de Gea's Wikipedia name gets edited to involve Loris Karius after Chelsea mistake

Manchester United's realistic hopes of ending the season in the Premier League top four are probably over after Sunday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Birthday boy Juan Mata opened the scoring against his former side 11 minutes into the clash at Old Trafford following good work from Romelu Lukaku and Luke Shaw.

However, David de Gea remarkably produced yet another mistake when he failed to properly deal with Antonio Rudiger's long-range effort, allowing Marcos Alonso to equalise in the process.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been Man Utd's Player of the Year in four of the last five seasons and had developed into one of, if not, the very best shot-stopper in world football.

That said, De Gea's worrying recent form continued against Chelsea and the latest error resulted in the name on his Wikipedia page getting edited to incorporate Loris Karius.

DE GEA'S WIKIPEDIA PAGE GETS EDITED

Loris Karius, currently on loan at Besiktas, made several errors during his time in between the sticks at Liverpool, but none were more high-profile than last year's Champions League final.

The German threw the ball into Karim Benzema, leading to a goal, and mishandled Gareth Bale's 40-yard hit as Jurgen Klopp's team lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in Kiev.

Now, the once untouchable De Gea, who's played 360 times for United since leaving Atletico Madrid in 2011, has had his Wikipedia page edited to factor in Karius.

As you can see below, the 28-year-old's full name on the website was changed to "David de Gea Loris Karius Quintana":

IS IT TIME FOR DE GEA TO BE DROPPED?

De Gea sucked the life out of United's Champions League campaign when he let a comfortable right-footed Lionel Messi shot to dribble past him at the Nou Camp.

In Wednesday's Manchester derby, he was caught out by the timing of Bernardo Silva's strike and then couldn't keep out Leroy Sane's drive despite getting a foot on the ball.

Following De Gea's mistake against Maurizio Sarri's men, the calls for him to see out the rest of the season on the bench will grow louder, with Sergio Romero a more than capable replacement.

De Gea has made as many errors directly leading to goals (three) in Man United's last four matches as he did in the previous 123, but his teammates are behind him.

Mata told Sky Sports that his compatriot has been fantastic for the Red Devils over the years and that he's determined to react positively as soon as possible.
