Maamria: Carlisle win up there with best Stevenage performances

Stevenage manager Dino Maamria praised his side’s fantastic performance as they beat Carlisle 3-0 to keep their play-off hopes alive.
The win means Stevenage are now five points off the play-off places with four games still to play.
Arthur Iontton’s first goal for the club and Kurtis Guthrie’s double ensured it was a straightforward afternoon for Maamria’s men.
Maamria said: “We’ve had some good games here this season; Oldham, MK Dons, Colchester and this is up there with them.
“Those games we didn’t keep clean sheets, but today we did and that’s probably the difference.
“I thought we were fantastic from start to finish. We were on the front foot and pressed them.
“It’s a performance I’ve been waiting for for a while.
“The only disappointing thing about the first half was that we only scored one goal.
“I think it could have very easily have been four or five but it was a great team performance and some very good individual performances as well.
“The thing we learned from dropping two points away at Macclesfield is not to sit back when you’ve got a lead, so we made sure we stayed on the front foot.
“My message at half-time was to do the exact same and to score more goals. I made sure the team were ready to score more and win big.”
The result sees Carlisle drift to four points off the play-off positions.
Manager Steven Pressley said: “As the scoreline suggests it’s a very disappointing game for us.
“It’s a game we thought we could win but it was a disappointing performance from us.
“We have to find a way with the team and we have to find a way with the players that we do have.
“We looked a little bit passive and that’s what disappointed me the most. We want to be aggressive, like we train.
“If we’re serious about seventh place this season then we have to win next week [against promoted Lincoln].
“It’s achievable in the sense that if we win the four remaining games then I think we will do it.”
