COPS today quizzed the off-duty bouncer who was left with a black eye after the Jordan Pickford pub brawl.
Officers visited the security boss to take a detailed statement about the late-night scrap.
Jordan Pickford, pictured wearing a white t-shirt, was apparently caught up in a fight in Sunderland
Pickford and Megan Davison have been together since high school
It is thought they also recovered CCTV from the pub where the fracas occurred as well as checking for footage from other nearby premises.
The developments came after Northumbria Police pledged to investigate the disgraceful scenes which came at the end of an all-day drinking session.
The Sun revealed how England and Everton stopper Pickford, 25, had been boozing in Sunderland as he watched his home town side lose a Wembley final to Portsmouth.
As the evening wore on he was snapped hugging a fan while holding a bottle of spirits with a drinks stain down his top.
At one stage locals poked fun at him by calling him “butter fingers”.
He laughed off those taunts but a witness said he exploded in rage when a drinker insulted his fiancee Megan Davison, 22, who gave birth to their first child in February.
Video footage appears to show £30m Pickford throw two punches outside the Ps and Qs bar in Sunderland.
One onlooker is heard yelling: “It’s Pickford” before another cries: “Jordan you k**b.”
It is thought that the off-duty bouncer – who wasn’t part of Pickford’s group - stepped in to try and calm the situation down but ended up with a black eye.
A pal of the victim said: "Apart from his eye and a damaged watch, he's doing okay.
“He wasn't working that night - he was out for his birthday.
"He was originally in the River Bar and, would you believe, had a drink with Jordan. Then they went to Sunderland and headed to Ps & Qs where he often works the door.
"Then it's escalated - Jordan's been fighting outside and he stepped in. It left him covered in blood."
A group of friends dragged Pickford away before police arrived.
An Everton spokesman said: “The Club has been made aware of an alleged incident involving one of our players and we are looking into the matter.”
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At 12:19am on Monday, police received a report of a disturbance involving a large group of individuals on Tunstall Road, Sunderland.
“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and locate those involved. Nobody is believed to have been seriously injured and no arrests have been made.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 19 010419 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
The off-duty bouncer declined to comment.
Claims were made that Pickford's childhood sweetheart Megan was targeted in sick insults
