Super-sub Aidan Fitzpatrick boosts Partick Thistle beyond Dundee United

Substitute Aidan Fitzpatrick netted a late winner as struggling Partick Thistle returned to winning ways with a narrow 2-1 Ladbrokes Championship victory over Dundee United at Firhill.
Former Dundee United striker Scott McDonald headed home Joe Cardle’s cross from the left to put the hosts ahead just four minutes in – it was his second goal since making his debut last month.
The away side bossed possession and battled to pull a goal back for the remainder for the first half with Osman Sow and Mark Reynolds both denied moments after the opener, while Charlie Seaman and Nicky Clark both fired wide 10 minutes before the break.
Thistle came close to doubling their score eight minutes into the second half but McDonald’s effort was saved before Blair Spittal had a chance blocked.
Dundee United equalised with 14 minutes remaining as Clark tapped the ball into the bottom corner following a free-kick but teenage substitute Fitzpatrick stole the points at the death for the home side, who moved off the bottom of the table as a result.
