That's the view of former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman, who says the new tactic is a big change for the team.
Former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain manager Emery is known for his pressing style game where he instructs his defenders and goalkeeper to play out.
Current goalkeeper Petr Cech is clearly out of his comfort zone in trying to do so and this has led to some mistakes early in the season.
He was lucky not to score an own goal on the opening day against Manchester City and then nearly gifted Cardiff a goal last Sunday after a stray pass out to his defender.
Seaman says he understands there has been plenty of change at Arsenal in recent months but he cannot fathom why Emery's side persist on playing out from the back, even if the situation does not suit.
"It's a big change, it's a massive change for Arsenal," he told Goal.
"For the club firstly and for the team it's different.
"We've got a sort of game plan that is trying to play it out from the back all the time, and it's not quite working."
Seaman's former team-mate Ray Parlour admits it will take time for Emery's tactics to work.
"We've just got to trust the manager, it will take time," he said.
"We've got lots of new players and new formulas they want to play.
"The standards he is setting are very high, we'll have to wait and see if players can adapt to that, but hopefully they can."
Even after the shaky start to the season, Arsenal still have won two of their opening four games and have only lost to big-hitters City and Chelsea.
Emery and his team face a trip to Newcastle in their first Premier League game after the international break.
