Arsenal vs Manchester City Carabao Cup final preview

The League Cup has been labelled as a 'Mickey Mouse Cup' in years gone by, but judging by the recent winners of the competition perhaps that's changed.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Man City have all won the competition within the last three years.

Arsenal won nine consecutive matches at Wembley before their recent loss in the north London derby to Tottenham. Their nine match run included two wins against their cup final opponents, Manchester City.

City won the League Cup in 2014 and then again two years later during the 2015/16 season.

Their most recent trip to Wembley saw them lose 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup semifinal last season.

Manchester City's road to Wembley

Man City's League Cup run began with a 2-1 win away at West Brom. A Claudio Jacob strike for the hosts was sandwiched in between two Leroy Sane goals which settled the scores.

Up next for Manchester Cit, came Championship high fliers, Wolves. Nuno Santo's team held City to a 0-0 draw at the Etihad but Claudio Bravo came to the rescue and saved two penalties in the shoot-out which City won 4-1.

City's next game also ended in a draw. The Citizens failed to beat Leicester at the King Power Stadium. Jamie Vardy's 97th minute penalty cancelled out Bernardo Silva's early strike. But Bravo came to the rescue once again and saved penalties from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez to send City to the semi finals.

Bristol City were next in line after they knocked out Manchester United and Crystal Palace in the competition.

Sergio Aguero scored a 92nd minute winner at the Etihad after Bobby Reid had put Bristol in front shortly before half time. Kevin De Bruyne equalised early in the second half before the Argentinian's goal late on.

At Ashton Gate, City were involved in a crazy game that ended 3-2 to the Premier League side. Sane, Aguero and De Bruyne were all on target for the visitors and sent their side to Wembley.
