Barcelona player salaries have set the alarm bells ringing

The Barcelona Members Assembly will have to approve the club budget for the current season on Saturday and it's not a minor issue as president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, will present a record budget of 897 million euros of which 588m represents the salaries of the players.

Even though Neymar has now left the club, the salary portion of the budget has reached 84%, well over the recommended ceiling of 70%.

The club can't handle this rate of spending and so it's expected that Bartomeu will look to market the training shirt, streamline revenues from Nike's management and get the best allocation of television rights.

The exit of players such as Arda Turan and Thomas Vermaelen will also lighten the burden.

At the moment however, nobody knows with certainty that such sales will materialise.

Don't forget too that in the coming weeks Gerard Pique will renew his contract followed by Sergi Roberto.
