Caen 1 - 2 Lorient: Win takes Lorient closer to survival

Posted Sunday, April 10, 2016 by PA

Lorient edged ever closer to securing their Ligue 1 status thanks to an impressive 2-1 win in Caen.

The visitors made a first-half breakthrough on 17 minutes when Benjamin Jeannot slotted beyond Remy Vercoutre on 17 minutes, after his effort moments earlier had been pushed on to the post by the Caen keeper.

And Lorient only needed two minutes of the second half before Majeed Waris converted from the penalty spot after Damien Da Silva fouled Romain Philippoteaux.

Dennis Appiah pulled a goal back for Caen with a mazy run and finish but the visitors held on for a vital win to move them eight points - and, perhaps more importantly, six places - clear of the bottom three.
