Empoli 3 - 0 Carpi: Massimo Maccarone at the double for Empoli

Posted Monday, December 14, 2015 by PA

Massimo Maccarone scored twice and set up a third goal as upwardly-mobile Empoli brushed struggling Carpi aside 3-0 at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

The veteran striker made the breakthrough two minutes after the break, the former Middlesbrough man - now 36 - volleying Piotr Zielinski's pass beyond Vid Belec.

He picked out Riccardo Saponara for the second as Carpi's offside trap was sprung and Belec was left totally unsupported in the 52nd minute.

Maccarone made it a rare brace with a shot on the turn two minutes after the hour mark, at which point 19th-placed Carpi waved the white flag.
