Chievo 1 - 0 Atalanta: Valter Birsa goal earns Chievo victory

Valter Birsa's second half strike saw Chievo beat 10-man Atalanta 1-0 at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.

Alejandro Gomez almost fired Atalanta ahead before half-time but his effort skimmed the crossbar.

Chievo hit back when play resumed with Riccardo Meggiorini just missing from outside the box.

The 66th minute dismissal of Nicolo Cherubin meant Chievo had a chance to score a penalty but Marco Sportiello saved Alberto Paloschi's attempt.

Birsa made amends by hitting Chievo's winner in the 76th minute, the Slovenian leaving Sportiello standing with a long-range shot.

To compound Atalanta's disappointment, Jasmin Kurtic was sent off for dissent in stoppage time.
