Sampdoria vs AC Milan preview - Inzaghi out to make amends

Filippo Inzaghi shouldered the blame for an embarrassing home defeat to Palermo before promising that AC Milan will rise again.

The Rossoneri had an opportunity to take third place in the Serie A table ahead of their Sunday night meeting with Sicily's only top-flight club, but 90 minutes later they were booed off having lost 2-0.

Next up for Inzaghi's side is a trip to face ambitious Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and the former Milan striker is targeting immediate redemption.

"We started the match very poorly and if we'd only managed to turn the game back in our favour we'd be talking about a completely different result," he told La Repubblica Sport.

"They were better than us and earned their victory.

"I've said my mea culpas - I'm primarily responsible. So we can't wait to get out on the pitch at Sampdoria and redeem ourselves."

Milan had gone unbeaten for six games before Palermo ended their run at San Siro and Inzaghi hopes his players' reaction to such an unexpected setback is prompt and effective.

He added: "I know it would be difficult to restore AC Milan to a high level.

"Sometimes it seems like we don't know how to react to conceding a goal and everything becomes more difficult than it ought to be. But all of this should help us grow.

"It's a blow that hurts, we've taken a step back, but we will rise again."

Midfielder Riccardo Montolivo and defender Alex are missing through injury while Samp are unable to call on the suspended Angelo Palombo or the crocked duo of Emiliano Viviano and Luka Djordjevic.

The club from Genoa are three points better off than their Saturday opponents having beaten Fiorentina 3-1 last time out.

Samp enjoyed 24 hours in third place before Lazio replaced them this week and head coach Sinisa Mihjalovic is eager to keep upsetting the odds.

"We had to prove we could beat anyone," he told Corriere dello Sport. "We have done so, and I am therefore happy.

"Very few people believed Sampdoria would be sitting in third place after 10 games of the season."
