MANCHESTER United’s new Argentinian stars are learning the local lingo by tuning into Coronation Street.
AY-UP CHUCK: Angel Di Maria will soon be able to order a bacon barm like any true Mancunian
World Cup aces Angel Di Maria, 26, and Marcos Rojo, 24, are having English lessons three-times-a-week as they do not speak a word of the language.
And when they are not sitting down in the classroom they have been told try and listen to as much TV and radio as possible – and that includes soaps like Corrie.
The Spanish-speaking stars have been told the ITV soap will give them an ear for how the man in the street talks – whether it is ordering a pint in the Rovers or a butty in Roy’s Rolls.
A source said: ''They are both knuckling down well to the lessons and working hard.
''They are committed professionals who want to learn the language quickly so they can fit in with the rest of the team and communicate with the fans.
''They’ve been told to completely immerse themselves in the language as that will mean they will pick it up much more quickly.
''Marcos and Angel have been told to watch lots of TV programmes with soaps being great for picking up conversational English that isn’t in a text book.
''They’ll soon be ordering bacon barms like any good Mancunian.’’
Like all United’s foreign stars the pair have been ordered to learn the local lingo by new boss Louis van Gaal, 63, who believes it is essential for better communication between players during matches.
The Dutchman wants his players to be fluent enough to give press conferences in English.
Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea, 23, showed how quickly he has picked it up by ditching his translator for a post-match TV interview following his match-winning performance against Everton on Sunday.
The source said: "The players have been told the key is to listen to people as much as possible and Corrie is a great way to do that."
