Chelsea launch bid for Marseille star

Chelsea have launched a bid to sign Marseille's highly-rated defensive midfielder Gianelli Imbula, according to sources in France.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly scouted the France Under-21 international and is keen on bringing the 22-year-old to Stamford Bridge.

Imbula, who has four years remaining on his existing deal at the Stade Velodrome, burst onto the Ligue 1 scene last season and has become a key man in Marcelo Bielsa's title-chasing charge.

It is likely the holding midfield player could cost Chelsea as much as £25m to lure him to the Premier League and the Blues are likely to face stiff competition for his signature from London rivals Tottenham.
