Newport County vs Northampton Town preview - Pigott in line for Newport start

Newport look set to hand new signing Joe Pigott his Exiles debut against Northampton.

The 20-year-old Charlton forward arrived at Rodney Parade on loan on Thursday afternoon to boost Justin Edinburgh's striking options after Rene Howe's recent injury and Pigott is available to feature against the Cobblers.

Edinburgh was left cursing a string of missed chances in their midweek draw against Cambridge but he is unlikely to make too many changes.

If he does decide to freshen up his side then the likes of Yann Klukowski and Andy Sandell will hope to be given the nod.

Northampton welcome back Tottenham loanee Jordan Archer after the goalkeeper missed the 2-0 win at Dagenham while on Under-21 duty with Scotland.

Experienced midfielder Darren Carter is also fully fit following his hamstring injury but Ian Morris is out for the season after dislocating his knee last month. Alex Nicholls joined Exeter on loan this week as he continues his recovery from a broken leg.

Defender Danny Alfei is available after his own hamstring problem and manager Chris Wilder has no further injury worries as the Cobblers look to extend their winning run.

Back-to-back victories over Exeter and Dagenham have put Northampton seventh in the early Sky Bet League Two table.
