OUTRAGED US football fans have slammed Frank Lampard’s dream move to the Big Apple after his infamous slur on the 9/11 attacks.
UNWANTED: Many Yanks are still seething after Lamps mocked Americans who were stranded by the 2001 disaster
The ex-Chelsea midfielder is due to sign for New York City FC “within the next few days”.
But many Yanks are still seething after the England ace mocked Americans who were stranded by the 2001 atrocity when flights had to be suspended.
Just 24 hours after the tragedy, Lamps and three of his Chelsea team-mates drunkenly stripped, swore and vomited in front of distraught US tourists. The players had been staying at a hotel near Heathrow airport packed with Americans still in shock at the slaughter of nearly 3,000 people.
They were thrown out of the hotel and fined by their club for their behaviour.
The other players involved were John Terry, 33, Jody Morris, 35, and Eidur Gudjohnsen, 35.
Now the incident threatens to undermine Lampard’s transfer. Many fans swamped message boards.
Andy Graves wrote: “Remind him how the Americans saved the UK from Germany and Japan during World War II.”
J B wrote: “He should not be allowed in.”
Lamps, 36 – engaged to TV babe Christine Bleakley, 35 – left Chelsea in June after 13 years with the club.
The New York club was formed in May 2013, but will not start competing in the US league until March 2015.
New York City FC spokeswoman Risa Heler said: “We don’t comment on signing rumours.”
